Significant Compositions in the Raga
All the basic Swara exercises like Sarale, Janta, Daatu etc. are taught in Mayamalava Gaula Raga because it is the first taught Raaga in Carnatic Music. The swara exercises are used in the basic teaching of the Carnatic music of Mayamalava Gaula Raaga and it is based on the work of Purandara Dasa who in his time formed a proper grading system for the teachings of Carnatic Music. Some of the most significant Raagas are like the well-known “Sri Gananatha” geetham based on Malahari raaga, a janya (derivation) of Mayamalavagowla. The song “Solladhe solaikili” is a composition of AR Rehman, sung by two most promising singers of their time Swarnalatha and S.P.B. This Raaga hints towards both old and modern side of Mayamalava Gaula Raaga.
