Significance of Daatu/Dhatu – Daatu verses introduce the concept of skipping notes to reach a higher or lower note. This becomes very important as the student needs to learn complex swara patterns as she moves forward. For eg. Sa-Ri-Ga-Ma, is the simple pattern. But can the student sing – Sa-Ga-Ri-Ma or Ma-Sa-Ri-Ga? These are the patterns and concepts that get introduced via Daatu Varase. Singing this ensures mastery over Swara positions, and the ability to move to a swara position that is away from the current note, without compromising the Raaga.
