A few years ago, my family visited Orange County Coorg Resort now known as Evolve Back Resort, Coorg. On our way back, we took a diversion and visited Golden Temple, Bylakuppe. Nestled away cozily in the heart of the greenery that encloses the area, this place is a village in a village! So serene, and the people who inhabit this place, are in their own serene and spiritual world that seems so different from its surroundings and its time.
Golden Temple is a Buddhist establishment near Coorg but located in Mysuru District. This monastery is referred to as The Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery. The monastery was established by the 11th throneholder Buddhist Master of the Palyul lineage, His Holiness Drubwang Padma Norbu Rinpoche in 1963. His holyness was a renowned master of Buddhist traditions.
The monastery is truly a sight to behold, with wonderful intricate paintings, beautiful Gongs, serene prayer and learning halls. There are detailed artwork on the walls, which are quite enthralling! The art work depicts the traditions of music as well, which I found very interesting!
I wanted to share some pics from my trip below for the audience of MusicNamaste. If you get a chance please do make sure to visit this place.
Tips for travelers –
- To reach this monastery one needs to travel to an area called Bylakuppe, Mysore district. This place is close to Kushalnagar, Coorg.
- There are not many popular food/lodging places near by, and the closest one would be Kushalanagar, Coorg. The temple does offer clean facilities, and food.
- Maintain silence and dignity in dressing and decorum while in monastery.
